Ingredients

  • 14 oz soft caramels, unwrapped

  • 5 oz canned evaporated milk

  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter


Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Step 2: Cream the Butter and Sugars
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with the brown and white sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2–3 minutes with a hand mixer or stand mixer.

Step 3: Add Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. The mixture should be smooth and creamy.

Step 4: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.

Step 5: Fold in Chocolate Chips
Stir in the chocolate chips by hand to keep the dough from overmixing.

Step 6: First Bake
Spread half of the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 8–10 minutes, just until the edges start to set.

Step 7: Make the Caramel Layer

Spoon the remaining cookie dough on top in small clumps. Gently spread it out as best you can—it doesn’t need to cover perfectly. The caramel can peek through.

Step 10: Final Bake
Return the pan to the oven and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the top is golden and lightly crisped.

Step 11: Cool and Slice
Let the bars cool completely in the pan before slicing. For clean cuts, refrigerate for 30 minutes first.
