Crack Chicken Penne: A Creamy, Cheesy Comfort Classic

  • Author: Charlotte B.

Description

There’s something irresistibly comforting about a big, creamy bowl of crack chicken penne. It’s the kind of dish that wraps you up like a soft blanket on a cold night, filling the kitchen with the cozy scent of garlic, cheese, and tender chicken.

For many families, this recipe has become a weeknight lifesaver — a dish that promises smiles around the dinner table, no matter how hectic the day has been. The combination of juicy chicken, creamy ranch-flavored sauce, melted cheddar, and perfectly cooked penne pasta is pure magic. Whether it’s for a busy weeknight, a comforting weekend dinner, or even a casual gathering with friends, crack chicken penne brings people together in the most delicious way.

What’s even more charming is the recipe’s playful name. The word “crack” here is not literal, of course — it refers to how addictively good the flavors are, with one bite practically guaranteeing you’ll go back for seconds (and maybe thirds).

This dish has found a permanent place in home kitchens because it hits all the right notes: rich, savory, creamy, cheesy, and just the right touch of ranch tang. And the best part? It’s so simple to make, even beginners can master it and feel like kitchen stars.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ cup cooked beef sausage (optional, sliced)
  • ½ cup turkey ham (optional, diced)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

    • Cook the pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the penne until al dente. Drain and set aside, but don’t forget to save about ½ cup of the pasta water — it’s liquid gold if you need to thin the sauce later.
  • Make the creamy sauce
In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the softened cream cheese, chicken broth, and milk. Stir gently until the cream cheese melts and the mixture becomes smooth and silky. The smell at this stage is already cozy and inviting.

  • Season the base
Add in the ranch seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. This is when the magic really begins — the aroma fills the kitchen, promising something delicious.

  • Add the chicken and mix-ins
Stir in the shredded chicken, beef sausage slices, and turkey ham. Let everything warm up together for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.

  • Toss in the pasta and cheese
Gently fold the cooked penne into the sauce, making sure each piece is coated in creamy goodness. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar over the top, stirring until it melts and creates a velvety finish.

  • Garnish and serve
Finish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley for a pop of color. Serve hot and watch everyone dive in eagerly.

Notes

If you like a bit of spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes. Want extra cheesiness? Stir in some mozzarella or pepper jack.
